I can never make enough of these little owls. They are quick and fun to make and everybody loves them. The stocking is just big enough for a small gift. Pattern available as a free download.
Hi Alison, I'm just starting these owls but the numbers don't seem to add up from row 4. It says (2dc, 2dc in next st) x 6 (24sts), but there are actually 18 stitches in row 3, so it should be (2dc, 2dc in next st) x 9 (36 sts)... but then it all goes wrong from there! Do you not complete the entire round in row 4?
Thanks for your help! Paula
Hi Paula. It is definitely a misunderstanding of how I write the pattern. I really appreciate your feedback because in future I will write a little about how the pattern is written. The first 2dc at the beginning, in the brackets, are in consecutive stiches and then the next two stitches are in then next stitch. This will give you a stitch count of 24 sts at the finish of the round. On the next round it will be 3dc which will also go into consecutive stitches with 2dc in the next stitch, which will give you a count of 30sts.
I hope this helps you, I always give a stitch count so that it is easy to spot when things go wrong. Thank you again for your feedback it is really appreciated. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any more problems. Alison :)
@The Crochet Tree by Alison Livesey: thanks so much! I didn't get to make them for the holidays this year, but I will definitely make them next holidays!
