I cannot stay away from the compelling designs on ancient pottery....and thus- The Cuerda Seca Shawl! With an inability to mix colours on cermaics, the Cuerda Seca technique was created in 15th century Spain. Thin lines of metal are placed onto dry pottery which then separates the bright enamel colours as they are applied and ultimately fired. Many of the tiles, bowls, and plates are decorated with radiating geometric designs.
This is a pattern for a top-down half circle shawl inspired by the distinct radiating shapes often seen in cuerda seca pottery. There are no visible spines; the increases are made beside the lace motif. You may knit your shawl in solid, gentle tonal, or ombre lace-fingering weight yarn. (~1800 beads sized 6/0, lace ~700 yrds, fingering ~875 yrds)
