The Almond Blossoms shawl is the first pattern in my van Gogh-inspired pattern series. Vincent van Gogh painted a group of almond blossom paintings, and he especially enjoyed painting flowering trees because they represent awakening and hope. I selected a yarn that reminds me of the colors in one of his almond blossom paintings, but any of the gorgeous hand-painted sock and fingering weight yarns available will make this shawl bloom. The shawl starts at the bottom point and is crocheted from the bottom up. This way, when you wear the shawl the stitches are right side up. Almond Blossoms is easy, fun and fast to crochet. After the first couple rows, it is an easy two-row repeat. Then, once the rows are completed you continue to the blossom dangle trim without breaking the yarn. The shell and mesh stitch pattern resembles blossoms and branches. The easy trim adds a fun, bouncy edging to the shawl.
