Correction: Back legs begin with repeating rounds 1-10 of front legs, not 1-9 as written.
When hip local yarn shop StashLocal asked us to dream up a window display made entirely of yarn, we pictured a breezy Pacific Northwest fiber wonderland where darling alpacas and blackface sheep frolicked over every hill. These two crocheted alpacas bounded across the pasture and right into our hearts, so we had to share them with you.
To make big props, we used extra large hooks. In order to make a denser fabric, you should use a hook size about half a millimeter smaller than the one recommended on the yarn label. The small alpaca is made by holding the yarn single and using a smaller hook. The large alpaca is made by holding the yarn double and using a larger hook. We encourage you to experiment with this technique in any pattern where fit isn’t a factor.
