[Pattern Three from the Birthstone Shawl Collection][1]
The name “aquamarine” comes from the Latin words Aqua (water) and marina (the sea). It was believed that these gemstones would protect sailors and ensure a safe seafaring voyage. It was also recommended that Aquamarine be worn to promote calm, levelheaded temperments.
SHAPE: Scoop bottom / crescent
The main body of this design is worked in garter stitch. The border is then knit on sideways. No seaming involved! There are two choices of border – a celtic cable and a traveling lace version. The cable version uses more yarn than the lace. If you’re low on yardage, but want a larger shawl the lace variation is a better choice.
The instructions are written for two sizes, a small shawlette and a larger full size shawl. The shawlette uses a single (400 yard) skein of fingering weight yarn. The larger size requires 2 skeins. Want the larger size, but don’t have enough yardage of a single color? Experiment wit
