Growing up we would take vacations to a little town called Ascona on the shores of Lago Maggiore in the southern part of Switzerland. Often on nice days parts of the lake would be dotted with tiny triangular white sails, offset against the blue sky and water, moving effortlessly in the distance.
With this stitch pattern I tried to re-create that memory, of those windy yet still warm days of autumn, watching the sails far out on the lake, moving like swarms of water birds.
Using a sequence of twisted stitches and spaced increases, this pattern lists and leans, and gently moves ahead under full sails in the breeze.
