Product Details

Shetland lace was the mainstay of the Shetland knitwear industry during the nineteenth century prior to the popularity of ‘Fair Isle’ knitting. Auld shell is a simple lace pattern traditionally used in the making of Shetland haps.

The colour combination possibilities are endless making each Shetland lace scarf look unique. Here I have used Jamieson’s Ultra 100% Shetland lace wool in natural shades with a touch of Candyfloss Pink. These scarves look equally effective in one colour only and this saves any need for colour joins.

The scarf is made in two matching halves which are grafted together at the centre. The size can easily be adjusted. The width by adding or subtracting repeats of 18. The length can be adjusted by simply cutting out or continuing to knit bands of colour of your choice. Tension is not critical for this project, a looser tension will result in more open lace.
