Product Details
These little birds are designed to be decorative. For example, you could knit white doves to hang on Christmas trees. They can also be toys… or, by knitting a set of four birds, you could create a mobile to hang in a child’s bedroom – the fun of batting little birds above their heads will keep babies occupied for hours! The tail, body and head are knitted in one piece. The wings will be worked separately using an easy technique that gives an open, lacy effect.
Stitches used: kfb, k2tog, yfwd, slip 1
You will need:
• 15g wool. A robust wool will help the wings stay in shape rather than flopping. I used Double Knit [8-6 ply, “light worsted”.] Tension square: 10cm x 10cm square is 24 stitches across and 32 rows.
• Knitting needles – I used UK size 12 [2.75mm, US size 2.]
• Tapestry needle
• Tiny little bit of darker wool to stitch the eyes
• Stuffing
• Thin wire to shape the wings if required
• Small amount of ribbon or wool to form the loop that the bird hangs from
