The color of the yarn combined with the texture of the cables got me thinking of stones and Tolkien. The Carrock is a stony eyot (a small island) in the upper reaches of the River Anduin in Tolkien lore. The name Carrock was a bit of a joke by Tolkien in that, in Anglo-Saxon, the word car means “rock”.
This cowl is worked at a tighter gauge than "normal" for this yarn. This produces a warm, thick, cuddly cowl. It could be worked with a lighter weight yarn at the same gauge for a lighter cowl with more drape.
The length of the cowl can be altered by more or less repeats of the middle section of the cable chart.
