THIS IS A LOOP YARN FINGER KNITTING PATTERN. The Checkerboard Cable Blanket is an Irish Aran/Celtic-inspired design consisting of a centre pattern of alternating squares (checkerboard), flanked by chunky chain cables, bordered by panels of seed stitch. This design is inspired by medieval knights - the seed stitch and chain cables recall chain mail armour, and the checkerboard pattern represents a common motif of shields and standards of the time.
