When my fellow knitter Susan asked me to do a pattern based on St. John’s National Park in the Virgin Islands I was happy to oblige. The tropical climate does not lend itself much to sock wearing though. What to do? A pair of footies of course!

Cinnamon Bay has a long and storied history dating back to the Taino Indians, the first recorded people to establish a village near the beach approximately a thousand years ago. After the discovery of the New World by Columbus, Danish and the English settlers established sugar cane plantations and harvested bay rum. Today it is an islander’s paradise and some folks such as Kenny Chesney hold it near and dear to their hearts. Susan promised me that next time she visits the beautiful island and bay she will take these socks along to knit. I wish she would take me!
