At Christmas I was playing with a complicated paper construction I came across online. There was no chance of knitting it because it would simply have tried to deform to be a sphere. It is in the nature of knitting, and crochet, that all regular 3D shapes try to form themselves into spheres.
I started to wonder what would happen if I reduced it to its simplest form and kept it very small. I was pleasantly surprised to find that an unstuffed cube is much more robust than I expected. This cube holds its shape very well. You can squash it if you want to but it is easily restored to its original shape.
I used about 10 metres of DK yarn in three colours. It would work in any yarn though the size of the cube would vary depending on the thickness of the yarn.
I have no idea what this could be used for but it is fun to make. As Christmas has only just gone, it occurs to me that it could be made in sparkly yarns to hang on the tree.
I hope to see some innovative ideas.
