Product Details
Ethne is a versatile shawlette with a subtle Celtic flavour. The soft crescent shape has straight ends rather than tapering to points, which means it can be neatly tucked flat inside a coat or jacket like a scarf. Also looks lovely worn as a neckerchief. Example is made using Dk/Light Worsted Weight yarn which gives warmth without being bulky or too heavy so it is ideal for wearing indoors too. I chose the 'Kiss' colour way by Rowan, which has a lovely rich tone and reminded me of crackling bonfires and Christmas of course...
A slightly larger shawl, with extra warmth factor, could easily be made by using a Worsted Weight/Aran yarn but still on the 4.50 mm needles.
Whichever yarn you favour, it is important that it has a high natural fibre content, like all lace knitting, good blocking is vital to achieve the best results, and although acrylic can have it's place, there is nothing like a good quality, natural yarn to show off all your lovely work at it's best.
Aimed at the intermediate knitter or a confident beginner who has some knowledge of wet blocking.
