Bit by bit, playing with a favorite lace stitch turned it into a large feather motif. I could not resist the urge to crowd some feathers together into a lace stole. I always want to think of it as a wing, yet the placement and the overall look is so completely not like a wing that I just can't! The feather motif is fascinating to knit, it is not an intuitive stitch. Each feather is rumpled and dense on the outer edges, then stretched right tight in the middle.

A large oval shawl in a feather pattern. This pattern does really well in both fingering and lace weight. It uses fairly simple lace stitches (yo, ssk, k2tog, k3tog, sssk) for an exceptional result. If you can do basic lace, and can keep track of long rows (mostly over 150 stitches across) you can make this!

The pattern is both written out line by line, and charted so you can follow whichever you prefer or switch back and forth.

The finished size is 37 at the widest by 92 inches long. I find this to be perfect
