“Fjall” is the Icelandic word for mountain, and the body pattern on this lopapeysa reminds me of a little ridge of peaks encircling its hem. From my home in the West Highlands of Scotland I have a magnificent view of the Cuillin Range on the Isle of Skye, and I think this image has found its way into the colourwork design for Fjall.
Fjall has a simple but very handsome rolled neckline, which leads straight into the stranded yoke in all its glory. Sleeve stitches are then put on hold while the body is worked, ending with that pattern of hills and another rolled edge at the hem. Then back to the sleeves – no grafting in top-down sweaters, just a few underarm stitches to pick up before knitting and decreasing to the cuff, finishing off with a stripe and a rolled edge to balance the design.
