One of the highlights of living here in Shetland is the wonderful wildlife we see. A favourite pastime is to watch the wonderful marine life around these shores. We frequently see seals, dolphins, humpbacks and porpoise plus orca. It is such a special sight seeing them in their natural habitat. There are several active pods of Orca which visit frequently to these shores and each pod is identified by their markings and by their ‘flukes’ or tail lobes. For these cowls I have tried to picture the flukes rising from the water. They are knitted in Jamieson’s of Shetland Chunky Marl. 2/3 of a ball will be sufficient for the smaller cowl and the larger one takes just over one ball. (2 balls are ample to make both if done in the same shade)
They are knitted on 6.5mm needles so whip up quickly – ideal for last minute gifting or if it suddenly turns chilly! The large cowl is long enough to wear doubled over but looks equally good draped around neck and fastened with a pretty pin!
