The original needlepoint was worked from an uncharted drawing. I've never counted up the number of colors I used - I'm guessing it was more than 50 - some were only one or two strands.
This chart has been reduced to 14 colors, based on the original colors.
If converting this to knitting or crochet, keep in mind that the chart "stitches" are square. Additional rows might be needed to maintain the height of the design. The chart is 170 stitches wide by 137 high, at a gauge of 6 sts x 8 rows =2.54 cm, you would get an item about 58x43 cm.
