These fingerless mitts were designed to allow me to knit during my kids’ hockey practice without freezing my hands off in the cold arenas. Inspired by the marks on the ice created during ice dancing or even hockey.
The mitts are knit from the top to the cuff, and the thumb is knit afterwards in the opposite direction. There are no fingers at all to allow the knitter to hold the yarn between the fingers for tension control.
Seven Fingerless Mittens I have recently become addicted to knitting fingerless mittens, because they are such a wonderful garment for exploring textures and colours - small enough to take anywhere, and the finished object can be worn and admired easily (unlike socks, which tend to hide in shoes).
All the fingerless mittens/gloves are knit with fingering weight yarn. Unless otherwise specified, semi-solid and solid colours will yield the best result. Highly variegated yarns tend to obscure the pattern.
