Product Details
I originally created these stranded mittens for a swap with Pinneguri. I am always awed by Pinneguri's exceptional color work and was more than a bit intimidated to be making a stranded project for her. Her wonderful sense of color and pattern were the inspiration for this design.
The Kanagawa mittens begin with a Latvian braid edge. They are worked in a stranded wave pattern alternating 5 colors. Have fun with the project, any number of colors from 2 to on up would work just as well.
When using 5 colors, a pair of mittens takes approximately 14(16, 18) grams of sport weight yarn for each color. The called for yarn, Cascade 220 Sport, is a great inexpensive option.
The measurements given in the size area above are circumference at the wrist and palm.
Tension on Stranded work varies from knitter to knitter quite widely and although I achieved gauge on US 2 needles, other knitters may need size 0 or 5. Achieving gauge is much more important than the size needle you use.
