Product Details
This Faroese-shaped shawl is cast on at the back neck and shaped with the use of yarn-over increases at the center back and edges of the shawl. Overall woodland and leaf motifs are used for the body of the shawl, which is finished with a knit-on undulating lace edging that reminded me of a forest stream.
I used two colors of The Woolen Rabbit Oasis fingering-weight yarn. I used approximately 375 yards for the body of the shawl and 385 yards for the border, but the shawl may also be knit with a single color (which will require around 775 yards of a fingering-weight yarn). While I would highly recommend this yarn base, a similar weight yarn with a nice drape and minimal bloom could be substituted as well.
Inspired by the name of the artist colony in Charles deLint’s book, Forests of the Heart, I designed this shawl thinking about a walk in the woods, winding along a narrow path under a canopy of old-growth trees as last season’s leaves crunch underfoot.
