Product Details

“Maypole dancing is a form of folk dance from Germany, England, and Sweden. In one form, Dancers move in a circle, each holding a colored ribbon attached to a much smaller pole.”

May Day is celebrated in many Western cultures in honor of Spring. When creating this design, the image of dancers moving around the pole with a colored ribbon came so vividly to mind and I set out to see how I could replicate that image into a cowl design. Using cables and fair-isle knitting, I was able to create a pattern where two strips of color wound themselves around the body of the cowl, like the colored ribbon winding themselves around the pole.

This pattern also represents the joy of Spring, through the usage of happy colors. Spring still can be a bit chilly though, so bundling up in a cowl is needed sometimes!
