Product Details
Mergellina is a sideways knit triangular shawl that combines the fun of cables with the ease of garter stitch. The shawl is worked from side to side in one piece, with the wavy cabled border knit simultaneously with the garter stitch portion. The cables slant to the right in the first half of the shawl and to the left on the second half of the shawl, which sets them at angle from the diagonal sides. The shawl is reversible: on the wrong side the wavy cables run along the edge. The shape is created by casting on and binding off stitches, which as a part of the cable section create pretty points or "teeth" along the shawl's edge. Soft, squishy and wonderfully textured, Mergellina is lovely to wear draped around your shoulders or as a scarf.
*Please note that the two sides of this shawl are not completely identical. They are close, but cast-on stitches do not look exactly the same as bound-off stitches. Please see the close-up shot of the shawl showing both sides.
GAUGE
22 sts/34 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10cm) in garter stitch AFTER BLOCKING. Gauge is not crucial for this project, however, to get the dimensions of the shawl pictured it is best to obtain gauge.
