Product Details
Mother of Invention is a seemingly simple triangular shaped shawl with alternating stripes of Stockinette and reverse Stockinette on either side of the center spine. The texture has an intriguing, almost trompe l’oeil quality, especially when viewed at an angle or when wrapped cozily around you. It is begun with a garter tab cast on and once established, a simple 8 row repeat creates the alternating raised ridges. Pops of color can easily be added according to the knitter’s wishes—variations are included to provide ideas. The combination of the two textures makes for a shawl that looks much more complicated up close, but is simple and relaxing to knit.
A delicate lace edge adds the perfect finishing touch. Written instructions and charts are provided for knitting three sizes, and suggestions for color placement variations are also included. This meditative and peaceful knit is as much a joy to knit as it is to wear!
