Product Details
The Picq mittens are inspired by the intricate patterns that decorate the walls and ceilings of the Schoelcher Library in Fort-de-France, Martinique. Designed by Parisian architect Pierre-Henri Picq, and opened in 1893, the library is covered in decoration, from the ornate metal structure that supports the building, to the mosaics that cover the walls, and the brightly coloured concrete tiles on the floor. As I stood looking at this beautiful library, I was already working out how to translate these motifs into knitting stitches!
Picq is worked from the fingertips to the cuff, with stranded colourwork that makes the fabric extra thick, and extra cozy. Knit the cuffs as long as you like, to keep your wrists warm on a chilly day!
The pattern is designed to be knit in the round using the magic loop technique, but you can also make them with DPNs or the two-circular needle technique if you prefer. Use your favourite worsted weight yarn to make these mittens!
