Product Details
My niece Pip is studying the effects earthquakes have on the land. The hat design is a Richter scale which measures the intensity of an earthquake - perfect to take on field trips.
Size: One size, to fit a medium adult head of 58 - 60cm/23 - 23.5 inches circumference.
Yarn: 2 colours of 8 ply/DK/light, 50gm balls of merino wool. I often use Debbie Bliss Rialto DK or Broadway Merino DK. I have used King Cole Luxury Merino DK with a guage of 22 stiches, 28 rows to 10cm. This has worked out fine. Length of yarn is usually between 103 - 140 metres/112 - 153 yards per ball.
Suggested Needles: 3.25mm/US 3 DPNs, OR 3.25mm/US 3 circular needle for casting on & knitting rib. 4mm/US 6 circular needle for hat body. 4mm/US 6 DPNs for shaping the crown.
Techniques: Knitting in the round, knit & purl stitches, decreasing, catching floats, weaving. The pattern is designed to be jogless.
Notions: Stitch marker, tapestry needle.
