I wanted to design a good introduction to brioche that still captured some of the dramatic effects that it is known for. Working in two colors is often easier than working in one since you can easily see which stitch is to be slipped and which is to be worked. When you work two-colored ribbing over an odd number of stitches, the same color rib runs up each side, keeping the colors balanced. This pattern uses two-color brioche with a selvedge for neat edges. It is squishy and reversible. Instructions are written for syncopated brioche, which changes the dominant-colored rib by switching knit stitches to purl. Optional instructions are given to eliminate the syncopated step, which creates a scarf with a predominantly light color on one side and dark color on the other side. This long, reversible unisex scarf is best worked in 100% worsted weight, non-treated wool which helps hold its shape.
