Product Details

Have you ever seen a sugar cane field after the harvest? The rows stretch away towards the horizon, and broken stalks are scattered between them in jumbled piles.

This shawlette reminds me of those fields in my home state of Louisiana. It also reminds me of calm and quiet – easy knitting for a long winter evening of cozy relaxation.

This is a very simple accessory to knit. It is worked on the bias with garter stitch rows alternating with an easy latticework pattern. It is a boomerange/asymmetrical triangle worked sideways from one point, growing as you go. It can be sized up by adding more repeats of the lattice pattern and using more than one skein of yarn.

This design will show off hand-dyed yarns with very short runs of color. Self-striping yarns will give it a completely different look!

Blocking is essential to open up the lattice work sections and make the most of the fabric.
