About the Design: This design is an adaptation of Scottish Fleet - Trees and Bars, in Patterns for Guernseys, Jerseys and Arans, by Gladys Thompson. I’ve altered the cables to an irregular rep, and the pattern sts are now purled in the 2nd color!
This A-line sweater has a split lower edge for ease of movement, which transitions to cables for a slightly more fitted waist, then to the allover guernsey patt. Knit in Naturally’s 14-ply Wool at a tighter gauge than usual, makes for a great ski or hiking sweater!
Gauge: 16 sts & 22 rnds = 4” (10 cm) in St st, and 19 sts & 20 rnds = 4” over charted patt, with size 9 ndls, or size to give gauge.
Yarn: Naturally Natural Wool 14-ply, 100% NZ wool, 244 yds/7 oz hanks: 2 hanks #920 Natural (A) and 5 hanks #921 Oatmeal (B).
Substitute Yarn Wt,: Chunky to bulky – a wool yarn about 35 yds/oz. The 14-ply was light & lofty. Plymouth Galway Chunky should work, as well as Cascade 128 or 128 Superwash, or Berroco Ultra Alpaca Chunky.
