Found only in New Zealand, the undersides of the Silver Fern ( “Ponga” in Maori ) are white or silver & reflect moonlight. The reflected light is an aid to navigating the Bush at night. You won’t find me making use of that aid, but it is nice to know nature invented ambient lighting before we did!
The elegant fronds represent strength and enduring power.
The fern is also considered the ‘unofficial plant’ of New Zealand.
