Simple Harmonic Motion is the term used in physics to describe the motion of, among other things, a swinging pendulum.
There are many times when I think that knitting could be described with the words Simple Harmonic Motion! However the creation of a shawl using short rows symmetrical about the centre has always especially reminded me of this term. (Due to the short rows the shape of the shawlette is somewhere between a crescent and an half-circle)
The border is knit first and then the main body is knit at right angles to this.
I use German Short Rows and give a detailed idescription on how to work them in the pattern. This is an excellent pattern for anyone who is looking for an introduction to German Short Rows. (In my own opinion by far the simplest method for short rows)
The shawl can be knitted in any yarn weight, even combining two contrasting colours by working alternating sections.
