Product Details
A beanie or slouchy called Spiriferous – for its spiral construction – showcases variegated yarns, from wild acrylic prints to gorgeous hand-dyed luxury yarns. The ruched crown resembles a flower when contrasting yarn is used for the optional flower center.
Spiriferous is worked from the top with alternating rounds of a main color yarn and a contrasting color yarn. The contrasting color yarn can be any self-striping or self-patterning yarn, with long or short color changes. (But not too short: a dc -- U.K. treble -- takes about 4 in./10 cm of worsted-weight yarn.) The contrasting yarn can also be a solid.
The top of the crown is meant to look gathered; it does not lie flat.
The pattern provides written instructions using U.S. crochet terms, and it includes a photo tutorial on how to work the spiral color changes.
Yarn requirements: Beanie -- 70-81 m for main color, and 63-73 m for contrasting color. Slouchy -- 80-92 m for main color, and 76-87 m for the contrasting color.
