The suggested yarn is a local producer (you can order by calling 715.421.0121 or emailing kimmetcroft AT solarus DOT net), but any fingering weight yarn will work well.
Earlier this spring (which is late in coming, and we’re expecting snow this week--in APRIL!) I was daydreaming about the first flowers, and I decided it was time to just knit them. I created Springish, a lace shawl with gentle crescent shaping and delicate scalloped edges.
After that shawl was born, there was a little yarn left over. It might even be enough for a hat, in my crude estimation of squishing the ball. That was that...the Springish Hat was born. lacy, light, and tough (because it’s wool!) it’s just the thing for a springtime tromp in the woods.
The center is a nod to the first leaves of spring and comes from the 1942 Canadian Cotton Spool Company pattern, Hemlock Ring. Further inspiration and technique was culled from the Marianne Kinzel book, “First Book of Modern Lace K
