Product Details
This star stitch ear-flap hat pattern was inspired by the beautiful night skies of the Mackenzie Basin in New Zealand where I live. The area is part of an International Dark Sky Reserve and this hat design is a celebration of the dark sky and beauty of the stars.
The hat features a split-brim which is knit flat before joining in the round. For a standard brim version, check out my Starry Nights Beanie pattern instead.
It is a quick knit and a great introduction to a brioche stitch and multi-color work. Both mosaic / slip-stitch colorwork and Fair-Isle / stranded colorwork techniques are covered - this allows those new to colorwork to have the option of knitting each round with just a single strand.
Method Split-brim is knit flat, body is then knit in the round, bottom up. Twisted cords are added when finishing. Video tutorials are included for star stitch and twisted cords.
