Just 1 skein of sock yarn makes this perfect summer shawl! The flattering trapezoid shape features garter stitch sides with pointy ends for tying, while an airy, textured lace pattern covers your back.
The shawl is knit sideways - start with 5 stitches, end with 5 stitches. You will never have more than 100 stitches on your needles.
The lace stitch is an easily memorizable, 4 stitch/4 row repeat, with 2 of the rows knit straight as "rest" rows. In fact, there's no purling whatsover in this design! You won't need to carry along a complicated chart while you're knitting either - the lace pattern alternates just 2 types of stitches.
The shawl is completely reversible and measures approximately 57" at its longest width by 18" high after blocking. Any fingering weight yarn can be used in this pattern (it uses approximately 420 yards at gauge), and both variegated and solid colors work wonderfully.
