Product Details
This elegant gilet with optional integral cowl, featured on the front cover of The Knitter issue 108, is worked flat in stocking stitch and rib and is finished with bound edges worked in the round. The Fronts, Back and Cowl are worked separately and then sewn. Darts in the Fronts and Back, side shaping and bust darts give this garment a gently tailored feel.
Being stocking stitch and rib, the stitch patterns are not demanding but this gilet does require knowledge of short row shaping. Binding the edges, a technique likely to be familiar to machine knitters, requires stitches to be picked up on the WS of the gilet and the cast off edge to be sewn down on the RS of the garment.
The cowl may be arranged to suit the wearer and may be knitted as long or short as you prefer – just remember to adjust yarn quantities.
