Swedish Klarälven Shawlette

This adorable little shawlette was 3 Kittens Needle Arts knitting pattern for the 2012 Minnesota Yarn Shop Hop. Janine Kosel, co-author of Norwegian Handknits and Swedish Handknits, designed this kerchief style shawlette for us.

Primarily knit in garter stitch, once completely knit, specific stitches are dropped back to the cast on edge, then chained back up (photo tutorial included of this process) to create vertical lines of stockinette. A button and loop closure attaches the ends at the back of the neck.

This pattern could easily be made into a larger shawl by continuing with the pattern as written and eliminating the button/loop closure.

While the gauge requested is 5.5 sts/inch, the pattern could be made with lighter or heavier yarns at different gauges.
