I set out to design a small shawl with one of my favorite literary heroines in mind: Elizabeth Bennett. I wanted a shawl that could be worn easily around the shoulders and would stay put on those long walks across the moor (hers, not mine). I envisioned something simple, but with a little feminine frill to it. This is the result. I can imagine Lizzie striding across the fields, book in hand, with this shawl draped over her shoulders to ward off the breeze.
This elongated crescent-shaped shawl features a simple garter-stitch body with a knit-on lace edging. Sizes S and M can be knit with one skein of fingering-weight yarn; size L will take about a skein and a half. You will need a set of US size 6 24" or longer circulars, and one size 6 DPN for the lace border. The pattern contains detailed written instructions, plus a chart for the lace border.
