Fiona Alice published her first knitting book, Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey, with Pom Pom Press in 2015. Those patterns are now slowly becoming available as individual downloads for the first time.
Three Cliffs is a simple rectangle, long enough to wrap yourself up in, or wide enough to drape loosely around your shoulders. The slipped stitches create a geometric pattern throughout, but leave interesting negative space in the the reverse stocking stitch areas. Although the raised texture is the focus of attention, I think the background is equally important. Reverse stocking stitch is often underestimated, but I chose to have it reflect the pattern in the foreground so as to bring intrigue into the negative space as well. After all, without negative space there would be no patterns.
The original scarf was knit in John Arbon Textiles’ Viola (purple sample). Fiona’s new sample is shown in Vuonue’s Pentti held together with Ito’s Sensai (silver sample).
