I created the Tiger’s Head design as part of a tutorial on designing your own illusion knit. It is now also available as this standalone pattern.
The free tutorial can be found on the tutorial pages at The World of Illusion Knitting.
The original tiger illusion was bought by Ripley Entertainment for a travelling show in conjunction with Science North. The show travelled US and Canada for six years. They had to ask for a replacement part way through as the first was worn out or damaged.
Illusion knitting is very easy. It is like knitting stripes. When you look at it from directly in front you see the stripes. The tiger appears when you look from the side. The pattern includes several versions of the chart, including one intended for mobile devices, where you see 20 ridges of knitting at a time and can always see the numbers underneath.
Illusions work with any thickness of yarn. Mine was made with approximately 400 metres in each of two colours of DK.
