Product Details
Fourteen species of kangaroos live high up in the tropical rainforests of northeastern Australia and New Guinea. They have adapted to life in the trees, with stronger forelimbs and shorter legs for climbing. One species, the Matchie tree kangaroo, can be found in several American zoos and are ambassadors for the award-winning Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program. This hat is a tribute to them.
The basic hat is a circular knit worsted weight watch cap with an additional tail. I used a 40" Magic Loop needle and Red Heart Super Saver® yarn for the samples. Separate instructions for 5 sizes are included, from Child 3-10 to XL-Adult.
The embroidered face is done with duplicate stitch, and the pattern assumes a knowledge of this technique. Detailed charts for each face color and embroidery paths are provided. Two 8mm glass beads or buttons for the eyes and a small amount of fiberfill for the tail are also needed. Its a unique and fun hat for all ages.
