I love the new yarn cakes with their long color changes, its nice to get a stripe like effect without having to tie in dozens of tails!
I've used Caron Cotton Cakes for his cute circle scarf, it is nice to the touch and not too heavy. But you can use any worsted weight yarn for the pattern or use several yarns for stripes if you don't mind sewing in ends.
