Product Details
Wild Island Sherpa Hats are my basic “go to” hats for everyday winter wear. They are simple to make, work with lots of different colours, look really good in solid colours, fit nicely, and the braid at the top fits under hoods better than most pompoms.
The
trim starts with a simple roll, while the next section uses a combination of purl rows and basket weave to create a headband that holds its shape, and is snug, without being too tight. The top of the Sherpa Hat is a funky peak, or point, from which the trademark braid hangs.
Note that these hats are said to look like tiny tents, and that is true. In Wild Island lore, the story says that when enchanted, these hats can be “expanded” to become actual tents, and then magically returned to hat size for easy transport. I don’t know if that is true, but it is fun to imagine.
