Winding lanes is beautifully cosy with textured cables that interweave in all directions, just like country lanes. Seen here in one colour throughout, the construction method also allows for the horizontal cable to be worked in a contrasting hue for a completely different look. If a plainer style is preferred, omit the upper cabling and work in plain stocking stitch or moss stitch for texture.
Method The large cable band is worked first by knitting flat and turning after every row. This is then grafted together, end to end, to form a loop. Stitches are picked up around the top edge of the band and worked in the round up to and including, the crown shaping. More stitches are then picked up around the bottom edge and the cabled ribbing is worked for the brim.
