I'm a zoo volunteer with a love for marsupials. I've knit hats featuring other animals — lion, tiger, bear, penguin, etc. — but wanted to knit something special honoring the common wallaroo. I was happy with the result and followed with another hat for the red neck wallaby. By that time I was on a roll. Since my favorite event is the springtime Bunny Bounce, I ended my knitting spree with a mama bunny and her babies.
My inspiration came from two patterns. The in-pouch joey head is from "Kangaroo and Joey" by Barbara Prime. The roos' heads were adapted from that pattern, but are slightly smaller. The mama bunny head, collars and arms are from the "Mini Lovey Blankie Menagerie" by Rainebo Designs. (Both are wonderful easy-to-follow patterns.) The hats themselves required short rows across the back so the larger heads would sit on top and not fall to the back.
The roo hats are fun to wear and get lots of comments from zoo guests. Wearing the bunny hat will have to wait 'til spring.

There's isn't a pattern for this project. I adapted Barbara Prime's "Kangaroo and Joey" and Rainebo Design's "Mini Lovey Blankie Menagerie" for the animals, and charted the hat (including short rows and pockets) to fit my head. There's a link here for "Kangaroo..." and "Mini Lovey..." is available on Craftsy and Ravelry. If you're comfortable designing your own hat, I was thinking that removing the head and Joey from a small stuffed Ty animal could also be an option.
