The pattern includes instructions to fit from preemie to 12 months, and you only need a very small quantity of light worsted (double knitting/8 ply) yarn to complete the hat, so it makes for a great stash-buster project. The crochet 'buttons' are an optional extra to add to the hat, and are so much more comfortable for the baby than normal buttons.
