The purpose of this pattern is to assist instructors in teaching students how to crochet and, at the same time, to give them something which they can easily make. By having this pattern, they will also learn how to read and follow instructions. It will give them plenty of practice while, at the same time, they are creating something useful.
Also included in the pattern are written out, step-by-step instructions for how to make the basic stitches - chain, single crochet, and double crochet - so that they will have a reference when they are not in the classroom. It also includes instructions for making fringe. You can teach your own particular method or different ways of doing it.
I hope that all of you crocheters out there will take this pattern and go out there and teach at least one other person to crochet.
