This pattern was inspired by a NPC in the Final Fantasy video games. This is a cactuar, It has a one shot ability called 1000 needles that will instantly execute a target within its melee range. I thought it would be cute to make a pin cushion for the irony.
The pattern includes visual and written instuctions for beginner crocheters, including a 'how to read the pattern' section for those unfamiliar with the layout.
Do you have to use emery sand or copper materials? No, while a pin cushion is usually equip with emery sand for cleaning pins and needles and this pattern does take it a step further utilizing the sand and copper materials for cleaning bigger pins and needles, it isn't necessary to use. You can fill the bottom with anything that would be heavy enough to keep the cactaur standing. You can even add or remove rows from the base to fit a paper weight.
This pattern is simiple enough to bypass steps to create just the cactaur to be used as a childrens toy.
