I also suggest that you can pick up a single or several different colours of wool, so you do not get bored knitting a lot of squares that are the same. Once you finished all squares, it is time to start crocheting them together. The crocheting provides a border effect and finishes the Afghan nicely. Might it be a time for stash busting! Use any oddments you have. Any colour, or different colour for each square looks amazing. Or might two strands of each or different colours? You will get very chunky snuggle! It’s up to you!
