The finished size depends on the yarn you are using, with the suggested 8/4 cotton yarn the size is:

Width: 8.5cm / 3.35 inches

You need to know basic stitches, increasing, decreasing, and working on back loops and front loops.

Yarn usage:

Suggested: 190 m / 210 yards of 8/4 cotton.

Any yarn is fine but remember that yarn impacts the size of the finished crochet chess figure. Also, the amount needed varies based on the yarn.
