Product Description

A cute chevron blanket that will work up fast, and is perfect for a doll or a preemie baby. It could also be used as a photo prop to lay a newborn on. It only requires 1 skein of yarn of each color you want to use! Two different ways to work this up will be given, too!

These look SO cute on 18" doll beds! My daughter has me making them all the time for her dolls, and luckily they work up quick!

Since it is about 18"x21", these also make great snuggle/cuddle sized blankets for little ones. Unlike larger blankets, it won't be dragging behind them or tripping them up!

Chevron Doll Blanket by Over the Head Threads

What is Being Made

The Chevron Doll Blanket is a crochet project designed to create a decorative blanket perfectly sized for 18-inch dolls or preemie children. The finished blanket measures 18 inches by 21 inches, making it an ideal accessory for doll collections or a soft, lightweight wrap for newborns. This downloadable PDF pattern from independent designer Over the Head Threads provides complete instructions for crafting this charming project.

Skill Level and Technique

This pattern is classified as a beginner-level crochet project, making it an excellent choice for those new to crochet or looking to practice fundamental skills. The pattern requires foundational knowledge of basic crochet terms and stitches before beginning. The signature design element is the chevron stitch pattern, which creates distinctive peaks and valleys across the fabric. This classic chevron technique produces a visually striking zigzag effect that is both decorative and achievable for beginners willing to follow clear instructions.

Stitches and Construction

While the PDF emphasizes the chevron stitch as the primary technique, the pattern builds on fundamental crochet stitches that beginners should be comfortable with before starting. The chevron pattern creates a textured, dimensional fabric through strategic increases and decreases that form the characteristic peaks and valleys. When laying out the finished blanket to measure, these peaks and valleys should be properly formed to ensure accurate sizing, as the fabric has natural stretch that can affect perceived width measurements.

Sizing and Gauge

Achieving the correct finished dimensions requires attention to gauge. After completing the first 4 rows, the blanket should measure approximately 18 inches across and 2.5 inches tall to match the designer's finished dimensions. However, the pattern allows flexibility: as long as your blanket measures at least 16 inches wide and 2 inches tall after the initial 4 rows, you will still achieve a properly proportioned doll or preemie-sized blanket. Additional rows can be added at the end to build length if desired, so width accuracy is the primary focus during the gauge-checking phase.

Materials Required

This project requires minimal materials, making it an economical choice for crafters:

  • Yarn: One skein of worsted weight yarn (aran weight). The designer used Caron Simply Soft in Soft Green for the pictured sample.
  • Hook: A crochet hook appropriate for worsted weight yarn (specific hook size should be verified with your chosen yarn's recommended hook size).

Pattern Format

The Chevron Doll Blanket pattern is available as a downloadable PDF, allowing immediate access to complete instructions. This format is convenient for printing or viewing on devices while working on your project.
